2018 Nissan Sentra Overview

The 2018 Nissan Sentra is back for another year as the car for the people. This compact sedan has everything the modern driver needs: enough space for five passengers plus their stuff; plenty of technology, comfort, and safety with lots of available upgrades; and all the horsepower it needs to get you where you're going on time. Making it even better, it's pretty easy on both your wallet and the pump.

The Perfect Ride for...

Car buyers looking for everything a new car has to offer at an affordable price. In fact, the Sentra was named one of Kelley Blue Book®’s "10 Most Affordable New Cars" last year.1 Nissan has kept that going this year with a starting price tag of just $16,990.2 Despite the price, buying a Sentra means you still get all of the comfort and safety amenities you would expect in 2018.

Drive & Handling

Thanks to Nissan’s history of automotive engineering evolution, this year’s Sentra gets unexpected performance by combining a lightweight body with a more-than-capable powertrain. Drivers can enjoy 130 horsepower from the base model’s 1.8-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine. Plus, Nissan’s Continuously Variable Transmission maintains useful RPM levels for whatever you need your Sentra to do, whether it’s passing a slower car or cruising on the open road. This means you get great performance when you want it without sacrificing fuel efficiency. The 2018 Sentra’s money-saving EPA-estimated fuel rating begins at 29 city mpg and 37 highway mpg.3

The 2018 Sentra also comes in upgraded performance models for those that feel the need for speed. The SR Turbo burns up the roads with a 1.6-liter direct injection gasoline turbocharged engine, and the high-performance Sentra NISMO® includes that same turbo engine with NISMO-tuned suspension and steering, as well as a super-slick NISMO aerodynamic body kit and interior with signature red trim.

Key Features

Wireless tech

You can easily enjoy content on your smartphone or tablet using the Sentra's standard Bluetooth® or available USB connection, or sync your device to stream more than 30 million songs available on Pandora®, Spotify®, or any other streaming service. If talk “radio” is more your style, you can stream thousands of podcasts covering a variety of subjects from the latest political discourse to hot celebrity gossip. Plus, all of these entertainment options are easy to control with either the illuminated steering wheel-mounted audio controls, hands-free voice controls, Siri® Eyes Free, or the 5-inch color LCD display.

Safety tech

Nissan engineers have packed tons of tech features into the Sentra’s compact frame, especially when it comes to safety. The Sentra’s available Nissan Intelligent Mobility system uses an arsenal of sensors to actually see other cars and potential hazards on the road. Blind Spot Warning can see other vehicles in the next lane, and it will sound an alarm if the driver activates the turn signal and it senses a potential collision. The Rear Cross Traffic Alert does the same thing when the Sentra is backing out of a parking space if it senses an oncoming vehicle or pedestrian. Looking ahead, the sensors can detect obstacles in front of the vehicle and can stop the vehicle to avoid a collision using Automatic Emergency Braking or maintain interval distance with the car ahead using Intelligent Cruise Control.

Alternative Options

Need something that's a bit bigger but isn't too bulky? Look no further than the versatile 2018 Nissan Pathfinder. On the other hand, if you want sporty styling, the latest tech features, and a surprisingly large amount of power for a compact car, the 2018 Nissan 370Z® is everything a sports car should be—and more.
Inside, the design shows excellent execution. Even in its base form, the Mazda CX-3 boasts high-quality materials and a sleek dashboard. Grand Touring models get a large central tachometer that adds an additional element of sportiness, while the gauges and buttons are easy to use.

Despite being a subcompact crossover, the 2018 Mazda CX-3 delivers outstanding comfort for its segment. Seats are pleasantly firm, and the cabin is surprisingly roomy.

While you’ll find less space than in a traditional crossover SUV, the Mazda CX-3’s modest rear cargo hold is more than enough for trips to the grocery store and weekend getaways.

Every 2018 Mazda CX-3 comes standard with anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, and a rearview camera. As noted, the Touring adds a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, while the Grand Touring can be equipped with an i-ACTIVSENSE package that includes advanced technologies like a forward collision mitigation system.
